Naprosyn Information
Naprosyn is a popular drug also known under the name of Naproxen. This medicine belongs to a wide class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug is known for its ability to reduce the harmful hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body. Therefore, this medicine is widely prescribed to treat inflammation and pain that can be caused by medical conditionssuch as bursitis, arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, menstrual cramps, tendinitis, or gout.
Naprosyn Indications
Naprosyn is a medicine that is widely prescribed in the treatment of pain and inflammation that can be caused by a variety of medical conditions. However, if you have any doubts regarding why your physician has asked you to start taking Naproxen, you should ask him, because this medicine can be given to prevent or to treat some other disorders, that have not been mentioned here.
Naprosyn Warnings
A treatment with an NSAID can sometimes increase the risk of developing some life-threatening circulation or heart disorders (this also includes heart attack or stroke). If you take an NSAID for a prolonged period of time, this risk becomes even higher. You should not take this drug before or immediately after having a bypass surgery (that is also known as coronary artery bypass graft - CABG).
A treatment with an NSAID is also known to increase the risk of developing severe intestines or stomach disorders, this includes perforation and bleeding. Elderly patients that are taking an NSAID (such as Naprosyn) are more prone to developing these conditions.
You should not take this drug if you are allergic to it or to any of its ingredients. You should alert your personal physician if you suffer from allergies to NSAIDs or to aspirin. You should alert your personal physician if you are suffering from allergies to any other medicine, or if you have:
- a history of stroke, heart attack, or blood clot problems;
- heart disorders, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure;
- stomach bleeding or ulcers;
- kidney or liver disease;
- nose polyps;
- asthma;
if you are a smoker.
If you are suffering from any of the conditions you may not be allowed to start taking Naprosyn or you may have to take in a lower dose of Naproxen (your physician should also monitor your treatment with this medicine.
Naprosyn is a category C FDA pregnancy drug. Therefore, this drug can have harmful effects on a growing fetus. You should ask your personal physician if you may start taking Naproxen if you are pregnant or if you plan to be so soon. During the pregnancy’s first 3 months, a treatment with this medicine can sometimes result in unwanted birth defects. It has been established that this medicine can and does pass into breastmilk. It is highly recommended that you ask your physician if it is safe to take this medicine if you are breastfeeding an infant. You should ask a pediatrician if you may give this drug to a child under the age of 2.
Naproxen is also known to make a patient’s skin more sensitive to direct sunlight; therefore it could result in sunburn.
Naprosyn Intake Guidelines
Ask your physician how and when to take Naprosyn. You should not disregard any of your physician’s indications. You can also consult the drug’s label for further instructions. If you have any other questions, you should refer to a doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
It is highly recommended that you avoid crushing, chewing, or breaking the Naprosyn tablet. You should try to swallow the tablet as a whole, because it is meant to slowly release its contents into the body. The tablets have a special coating that prevents it from harming the stomach, thus avoiding stomach upset. If you are taking the oral suspension of Naprosyn, you should shake it before measuring the dose that you should take. To make sure that you take the correct amount of suspension, you can measure it with a special measuring device (such as a measuring cup or a measuring spoon). If you do not own such a device, you should buy one from a pharmacy. It is recommended that you keep the package of Naprosyn away from heat and moisture, stored in a cool and dry place. Keep it out of reach of pets and children to avoid accidents.
Naprosyn Dosage
Ask your personal physician to tell you the correct dose of Naprosyn that you should take in, in order to get the best results. Do not make any adjustments to your prescribed dose of Naproxen without your physician’s consent. Avoid taking double doses of this medicine without asking your doctor if it is safe.
Naprosyn Overdose
You are in need of immediate medical care if you suspect that you are suffering from overdose with this medicine. The known Naprosyn overdose symptoms usually include vomiting, nausea, confusion, stomach pain, drowsiness, bloody or black stools, shallow breathing, coughing up blood, fainting, or coma.

Naprosyn Missed Dose
Since Naprosyn is sometimes taken only when it is needed, missed dose should not occur. However, if you are following a treatment with this medicine, you should avoid missing any of your prescribed doses of this medicine. If you happen to miss one, take it as soon as you recall. If it is time for another dose, skip the one that you have missed and proceed with your regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking extra doses of Naprosyn without asking your physician if you may.

Upset stomach, nausea, heartburn, headache, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Naprosyn Storage
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
